President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is scheduled to attend the 120th anniversary celebrations of St Martin Hospital at Malindi Anglican Mission in Mangochi on Saturday.
The Office of the President and Cabinet, says Professor Mutharika is expected to arrive at the venue at Ten O’clock in the morning and meanwhile, the Anglican Diocese of the Upper Shire says all is set for the celebrations.
Bishop Brighton Malasa of the Diocese says the event will showcase the contribution the Anglican Church has been making over the years in complementing government’s efforts in the provision of quality health services.
“As a church, we know that one of our core duties is complementing government’s efforts in developing the nation and providing reliable health facility services. 120 years ago, the establishment of this hospital showed the importance of saving life,” said Bishop Malasa.
The Bishop said this is a celebration and a thanksgiving mass where it is presenting the church with an opportunity to look backwards on its achievements and focus on the future on how best they can serve the people of Mangochi and the nation as a whole.
“We want to learn on the past and re-focus on the future on how best we can achieve the vision that were set way back the founders of this mission. As a church, we provide both physical and spiritual development and this hospital has been one of the great achievements in as far as quality and health service delivery is concerned in the district,” explained Bishop Malasa.
He added that the presence of His Excellency the President Professor Peter Mutharika at the celebrations is an honour and this shows the cordial partnership that exists between government and the church in developing the nation. The thanksgiving mass will take place at Malindi mission ground.
